Ahhh! Spring 2010 is fast approaching. Yeah, we still have to content with a little chill and snow and some blizzard conditions. These are short term and soon we will be enjying the warm breezes sunny sunsets bar b que and outside fun.

Now is the time to start consideration of the home window treatments for spring time. Don't wait til spring is here or you'll end up with summer time and still no new window fashions.

Two inch wood blinds are still and may always be the best most popular update to any lonely sad window. real wood blinds of 2" and 1" can be had in stains and white. White of course is a spring time favorite.

So this is Christmas.

The economy stinks. The world is in chaos while the dollar shrinks. Dishonesty rules and good takes a back seat. We listen to leaders, believing not what they speak. What happened to unity? Where is the truth, compassion and comfort we enjoyed in youth? Hard to be happy in down turned times.

Good news my friends! All is not lost. For hope we have and that not at cost. Not at a cost for you or I, though cost it did for Jesus to die. He gave His life upon that cross that not one who believed should be lost. Why all this mention of Jesus death? Because in order to die He had to be born.

Christmas 2009. We have yet another opportunity to rejoice in the birth of our savior Jesus, the Christ. We can take a break from worldly issues and remember the Reason for the Season. I urge you to open a bible and read Luke Chapter 2 (The Birth of Jesus). This is the original Christmas story and why we celebrate Christmas.

In honor of the Christmas celebration this company will close for a few days. The web site will remain open for viewing and ordering, yet manufacturing and delivery will be delayed. Been a little busy lately. Seeing some countryside visiting some relatives. As Letha and I traveled some of the back roads on mini vacation we came across some of the fun sites that small towns have to offer. Things that make a road trip fun. We traveled many small two lane roads and came across many marketing ploys that are sooo funny and smart. (Rayne, La. is apparently the Frog Capitol of the World) according to the signs and freeway paintings.

Father's Day Gift

on Lake Livingston (Texas). My son took me fishing. Did all the work. Cleaned the fish, drove the boat, everything. A great for dad. We caught over 150 bass this day. No can't keep them all. Their limits....darn it!. We kept our limits and had sooo much fun!

So remember dad on Fathers Day!

Windows, Womens Tires and Holy Men

Good friend of mine was heading out of Houston up to the Dallas Fort Worth area today. She happen to mention the tires on her SUV might need attention. How to do I know she asked? We'll being a guy I copied and pasted the 3 step Penny tire evaluation whereas she realized that the two left side tires were in dire need of replacement. Naturally they will get replaceded, Right after this trip ...Yeah Right!

There should be a rule...like get a free set of tires for every fourth or forteenth pair of shoes! Seriously, why to you Gals wait so long to check the tires.

NOW, before you assume what you WILL assume. I must admit. An hour later I texted and inquired as to how large the hole in a mans sock can be before it is a liabilty. Yeah! answer was "any hole too big". Same for sock, same for head.

Ladies, your not any different than we are. Men, I mean!.....just as head strong, right and totally justified.

Folks,

Gotta tell ya. I only missed one supper bowl in my life and 2009 was one of the most exciting ever witnessed by anyone. What drama and minute by second action from both teams. From start to finish the suspense never ended.

I will say there were a few suspect judgements. Even this blind man could see some iffy calls by the authoritative appointees. Wood venetian style blinds are great to photograh through, yet I wonder were they using a cellular shade. Great for reducing light the cellular shade does hinder view in which some calls seemed to be effected. Woven wood shades would have been more clear and allowed more light in to determine the actual outcome.

All opinions aside we still had one heck of a ball game in this 2009. My respect and support for both teams.

You know we have a new President and regardless who anyone voted for I urge all to stand behind the newly appointed leader of our United States.

Mr. President we want to welcome you to the new position as leader and authority of the U.S.A.

God appoints all leaders and authority figures, we are granted the gift here to vote and voice our opinion.

Hey Ya'll,

A friend recently sent me a photo of Mrs. Scotts Third grade class of which I was part. In recalling those days I remember the ability to see outdoors. Then in frustration I recalled later days in High School where the windows had been eliminated. Some say for expense some say for the purpose reduction in day dreaming and so that the student would pay attention to the instructor. Well, in my eyes the day dreaming is, was and always will be a part of life in class that cannot and maybe should not be closed off. Mrs. Scott certainly had no problem getting the attention of all in her class and we did not feel so closed and locked in as most pupils today.

While I admit I did not go into the blind and shade business due to a bewildered lack of light in the senior year, I will say......LET THE LIGHT IN!!! Not only do we desire light in our lives, but our children do as well. Day dreaming through a 2" window blind is not going reduce a childs life to poverty.

Faux 2" blinds in express whites or even the Royal Trends stained are perfect for reducing a blinding outside light and yet just right to allow some of natures rays to enter and sooth the room . Sun Room Window Decor

Sun Rooms!! What a great innovation. The room that lets the whole group enjoy nature yet provides the cool and heat as desired by the human nature we are so adapt to. View the swimming pool or barbeque from a climate controlled outdoor area. Watch the kids playing and having a great time.

Measurement Tip for Window Trim

Hope the 2009 is kind for you so far.

I had a call this week on an old issue that is deserving of updated mention. This particular customer had measured for inside mount 2" stained wood blinds. The customer measured correctly so to speak and yet neglected to take into consideration the trim work around the window. When saying this, I mean the width was measured top middle and bottom left to right. The height was measured top to bottom left, middle and right. The smallest measurement was used and yet still the blinds did not seem to fit the opening upon arrival. The problem was the customer had paneled walls and at the edge of the window recess there was a trim used to cover the raw edge of the paneling. Now, the measurement was correct and the depth was sufficient for the 2" or even a 2 1/2" blind. However, the small trim work at the edge of the window recess protruded out to a more narrow point than the actual window recess width. This is a very important issue. Please keep in mind the measurement you give must be an open unrestricted opening with nothing being intrusive within that space.

The stained blinds did eventually fit into the opening, but did require some difficult maneuvers that scratched paint and can sometimes require trimming of product at the buyers' level.

The main issue is to keep in mind that the measure width and height must allow for a solid mass of the same width and height to fill the measured space.

Hope this will save some time and future issues with your blind installation.

You do have options for outside mounts. Outsides mounts do not require a deduction in size and will be made to the height (including headrail) that you specify. Wood Blinds Stop Hurricane Ike

Hey Folks,

Well my 2" window blinds did not stop Hurricane Ike, but they did allow me to close off the sight of 120 mph winds and the sight of what those winds can do. We in Spring,Texas were fortunate. The loss of many trees and services for a while, yet no major loss of property and the entire 6oo mile wide storm took minimal life. All in all I have to count my blessings and thank God for His Grace and Mercy.

Ike claimed a large portion of the coastal area homes and flooded numerous areas for more than seventy miles. Electricity has been reported out south to north for more than 100 miles. We are pleased to say manufacturing and sales have suffered only a minor set back due to electric power restoration.

I can say, when the storm cleared I surveyed out the 2" wood blinds and thought "no problem". Once the winds calmed and I went to retrieve my 280ZX from it's place in the garage I realized we might have a small problem. Though any problem can be overcome with the right effort.

Point being, we are back in the process of providing great wood blinds, faux wood products and shades. Hurricanes come and go like wildfires, tornadoes and flooding.

Our sincere thanks to the literal thousands of repair crews involved in the cleanup, repair and restoration of the Texas Gulf Coast area. And a very heart felt thank you to the understanding of customers for the slight delay experienced due to this catastrophe.

I Love this country, but when prices rise due to potential problems it makes me crazy. Come on! A potential threat can raise prices from Orange Juice to Gasoline and everything in between.

Guess what? A Man just cut a tree in Spring, Texas. The price of Wood blinds will rise by 50 percent. NOT SO!!!!

Speculation has gone wild!

Actually we are in a trial period of offering lower prices to our customers. Why Do We Have Windows?

Here's the deal.

Wbsfactory.com lost a dear friend and neighbor recently. Eugen George or (Gene) as called by many. Gene was a great freind and neighbor of thirteen years. An older gentleman and a kinder more entertaining person you will not find. As normal there are preparations a family must make for this time. Funerals and burials are hard things to arrange and attend.

Point being this. As I watch the events following (thru the slats). One can not help but notice the healing and great family love that just naturally comes from the more difficult times. Kids will play and family will eat and talk. People will help heal one another. God gives this ability through us, though we always tend think we should live forever.

We have windows, because we want to invite the outside in. Blackout shades are great when trying to eliminate annoying light and reduce thermal ratios. Closing the wood blinds tight are a good measure to seclude or just temporarily avoid the outside. Fact is that in the long run, we want to see the surrounding properties. The Perfect Storm

Whew!

Tropical storm Edouard was a sudden creation out of the Gulf of Mexico and let me tell you. Those can sometime be the worst senerio even beyond Hurricanes. We on the Gulf Coast are so thankful that we were spared once again the devastation that has been past history.

T.S. Edouard was actually a blessing for many of as it left behind a nice neat 2 1/2" of much needed rain for the lawns, trees and scrubs.

With any emergency weather issue we have thoughts about being prepared. Please remember that faux wood window blinds are both flame retardant and under light circumstances water resistance. Wood blinds are very reactive to moisture and can warp. Faux wood blinds will take a little more punishment. Big Foot is BACK! Yep, up state New York says they've had several sightings of the notorious monster. Gosh, I hope he does not hurt anyone. He never really seems to.

Okay! Just poking fun guys. I know the folks in upstate New York have seen something. Honestly, I cannot say it is not a BIG FOOT! I also will not say my brother has not got BIG FEET.

Life can be as difficult as we make it. Are you choosing a spouse or a window treatment? Really does not matter. Gosh the 2" window blind is the most common and favorite and so pleasing yet, cell shades are so cool and reduce the heat and cold factor.

Well, truth is it's alot like choosing a spouse. You can see something so beautiful and or handsome and think Wow! and that BLING!....all that glitter and money too! Knowing the whole time you are barking up the wrong tree.

The issue is this. Keep focused. Know what you want.Look around. Go to the stores. Yes, retail outlets are high, but you can get good ideas. Look at the Southern Living, Better Home and Garden and so many more. Do some home work and then go shopping. When shopping look at the factory specifications. Know what you need.

Wives and husbands are too often chosen on the spur of the moment. That too often relates to bad news for the choosing party. Avoid the window covering catastrophy by looking, shopping, learning.

Woven wood shades are great if your neighbor has them, but is it the style you are? Roman fold shades are wonderful but, are you that person? Take a good look.

Okay, I cannot testify for the northern most States, however summer August 2008 for the southern United States looks to be an absolute sizzler! Especially Texas! Luckily we have some regular rain to water the nature and give temporary coolness to some days, yet just enough to bring down that 101 degree to a WHAT? comfortable 96 with humidity.

July forth, Oh so many memories!..........tooo much homemade ice cream, too many orange crush soda pop's. Great barbeque and heat that would cause the sane person to catch the first flight to Iceland just for a hint of a cool breeze.

Independence Day in America. A great celebration that as I always stress, we take for granted. I say this because I myself do take it for granted. We must try and remember the reason for the Holidays. The 4th of July was created in recognition of the great blessing the United States received in the earlier years. Freedom from outside rule. Freedom's to let the people come together and voice ideas.

Love this country!, though I complain way too much like all the rest. I love that I can sell window treatments on the internet without being told I am restricted. Love! that I can walk down the street and have some better sense of safety than most of the people in the rest of the world. Love that I can afford and so can you the blinds and shades that let me see outside and close at night for privacy. Greatly appreciate the economic freedom's that tell me I am as capable as the next guy and can compete with anyone. Greatful for the competitors, because they keep prices some what in line. Only for so long in this country do we get these wonderful gifts.

Is everyone so weiry as myself over all the U.S. Presidential election media? If so, Here is my theory! Buy lots and lots of wood blinds and or roman shades. This way we can all close off the world and recluse into our own harmony, at least for a little while.

Seriously, we live in a great nation with freedoms we should most certainly take advantage and or action upon. Voting is not only a right, but an obligation. How can we complain if we don't participate?

Okay, my take is this. Don't vote with the pocket book. Vote the man and or woman who will seek higher power and wisdom to guide the nation. Our country was founded on Godly issues and we have had many leaders who sought our God and provailed even without wordly wisdom or experience. God provides for those who seek him.

Whatever your thoughts, get out there and vote.

Yes, I know the summer is coming really eary and the grass is turning brown in spots, Maybe it's global warming, maybe it is historical.

One thing I can tell you is that our wood blinds in Catus Green will not fade like your lawn and they don't need water that cost....well you know what water cost!

Folks, it is going to be one of those trying summers.Gasoline prices are crazy and everything else follows, but you can still change the look of the old homestead with new wood window blinds. Don't be a shadow of yourself

You know for years I would awake every moring walk through the house, open the blinds and think WOW! What a great day! Then I would turn and see my shawdow on the wall, thinking...MAN! I gotta loose some weight. Despite reports I did loose weight, but I also changed window coverings. Times change and so do our needs. Letting in the morning sun is great unless you have to leave for work in ten minutes and you leave the blinds open for the rest of the day to heat the home and cause the A/C to run all day.

No Fear, Cellular Shades are here. Replace the current window treament with a cellular shade....stroll through in morning use the top down option to drop that shade a couple inches to get that great morning light and leave it! The rest of the day your palace will get light to a low level, not requiring so much A/C and from the outside it will not appear so closed off, like no one home. Not to mention you can get single cell and double cellular shades which will reduce the filtered light, so like me you will not notice the extra two pounds you might need to loose.

Faux Wood Blinds and Big Oil Prices

Many, will think the faux wood blind is supposed to be cheaper in price than the real wood blind. Yes, you are correct to a point. The faux wood blind is a hydrocarbon, hence oil related product that was introduced some years ago as a great alternative to the real wood window treatment. As most of you can guess, the recent oil price explosion is effecting the faux wood blind also.

Where will all this lead to? The industry is not certain. Some believe that faux will soon out price a real wood blind. Should this happen the desire for a faux blind would as most agree fall by the way side. Real bass wood blinds are the staple of the window decor in homes today. Draperies are great, but blinds are the only fashionable tilting, lifting venue for blocking out what you do not wish to see and yet letting in some outside light for your own viewing pleasure.

We do not yet know what will become of the faux wood blind, yet we can caution! When purchasing.....ask...is this product custom made or cut down? Many are being sold as a cut down product at cutom made prices, because of the recent increase in faux wood cost of manufacturing. If you are looking for a lesser quality product like a cut down blind, then there is no issue with a lower price. However, do not be deceived into paying for a product that is not what you thought it would be.

Folks, I... like you, do not wish to resort to the days of aluminum foil in the windows to block heat. Excellant window treatments are available, but now may the time to look at real wood products due to the shrinking savings on the oil related faux wood materials.

Faux window treatments are on the rise and will continue to follow oil prices like too many products must. My advice is like always. Becareful, check prices, take the time to do the research. Get samples and order small windows first before buying for the entire home.

I can say that good or bad. Faux blinds will remain a need for certain facilities due to the flame retardent reaction of the material itself. Flame redardent is required by many insurance companies and municipalities for conformance to safety regulations in the protection of the general public. Faux wood window decor will have a place in our society and a well deserved place, how the pricing will proceed is still to be seen.

Guys and Gals.

I love the pooches much as anyone, but I gotta tell ya. One of our most common calls for blinds and shades failure is due to the familiy pet.

When my son was young we had a great beauty we called Christy. Short for Christmas Surprise. Christy was a young black and white Dalmation pup. One Blue one Black eye. We understood she would never be a show dog but her pup's might. Talk about a great Dog! Oh!!! Christy was balistic....Sooo much the fit lean machine that one will see in the shows. Sooo, much the apple of my son's eye. Yet, Christy, like many was curios, mischievious and just plain O'l wanted to be in the middle of things.

My point being...............Pets can be among the number 1 reason for blind and or shade failure. Oh, they never mean it and we can never really blame them, but !!! When we go away for the weekend or that Great Vacation...they feel sooo alone and even though we have someone come over to feed them and play with them....We'll....it is just not the same. The family pet wants the Family.

Okay, here's the deal. No one can warranty your blinds against pet destruction.

I can offer some thoughts.

Routeless blinds, will allow for the removal of each slat and replacement slat by slat. Still! If the one in question devours the strings...of said blind or shade...well...it's History.

Celebrate Memorial Day 2008

The theme of the first Armed Forces Day was "Teamed for Defense." It was chosen as a means of expressing the unification of all the military forces under a single department of the government. Although this was the theme for the day, there were several other purposes for holding Armed Forces Day. It was a type of "educational program for civilians," one in which there would be an increased awareness of the Armed Forces. It was designed to expand public understanding of what type of job is performed and the role of the military in civilian life. It was a day for the military to show "state-of-the-art" equipment to the civilian population they were protecting. And it was a day to honor and acknowledge the people of the Armed Forces of the United States.

Take out Chicken Parmesan and Window Blinds

Okay! What does Take out Chicken Parmesan have to do with your new window blinds. Well..It's like this....I have a favorite local place here in Spring,Texas that serves the most bestest (right) chicken parmesan. I always get the take out and well..you know good chicken parm can be pretty fattening...lots of oil and it used to leak on the seats of my other (favorite) a 1982 280 ZX Datsun....on the way home. Try to explain that one to the speacial friend who is lucky enough to sit in the seat next to you the next day.

It's all about the packaging. Eventually the chicken parm came with a paper plate under the actual container and another paper plate under the take out bag. Great! this stopped the leaking onto the seats and saved me future explanations as to why women should expect to get stains on brand new two hundred dollar dress slacks.

Same applies to your new blinds. PACKAGING is what I mean. Your new blinds are shipped in specially designed boxes to insure safe arrival and adequate protection, should you ever have a need to return the product, you will need that box! No one saves boxes anymore, but I can tell you these particular boxes will never be found at the local box store. Please save the boxes and save yourself a lot of hassel and expense should you ever have the need to return the item for repair or even moving. On occasion folks will ask for boxes. We'll they are not cheap upon request and have to shipped out to you and just an issue you really don't need.

Want to surprise mom on Mother's Day? Sure you do! Okay, have the kids take her to dinner or lunch and spend some time. Mean while you go over to her place and measure for new blinds or shades. Cloth tape and string Ladders

Most people have no need to be familiar with the term string and or cloth tape ladder. This term has to do with the blinds integrity, what holds the whole item together and is responsible for the basic operation of the blind. Each blind wood or faux wood will have a number of vertical ladders. How many depends on the width of the blind. When ordering the most common string ladder (no cloth tape) the number really is not an issue because the string just sort of blinds in with the blind. When ordering cloth tape option the number of cloth tapes used can be an issue. Many folks give no thought and assume each blind will have two cloth tapes running vertical up and down the blind. Consider that it is possible the blind could have three cloth tapes and more. The reason is due to the number of tapes needed to hold the blind in place and make it functional. Again, most folks don't have issue with this, however some consider an odd number of cloth tapes odd looking because the tape is colored and noticeable. You can see how many string and or tape ladders your blind will have in the Factory specification segment of our website.

"April Showers Bring May Flowers" ?

Maybe, but they can also lead to more water on the freeway in May when the rain continues into May. Writers have often used April to indicate the opening because of it's Latin origin "aperire" which means to open. Did you know April begins on the same day of week as July in all years and also January in leap years? Okay, we may not all be longing for those April showers this year, because we know it means the opening to higher summer cooling cost.

Have no fear! Honeycomb or cellular window shades can help you cut those higher cost by reducing the amount of heat coming through the window. Available in single cell and double cell fabrics, both styles have r- factors representing the insulating effect that can work like the insulation in your attic.

Cord vs. Wand Tilt Control

What the Heck! Another decision? What difference does tilt control type make anyway?
Calm down and consider it for just a moment. The tilting devise for wood and faux wood blinds will be of a cord type or a wand type. The cord is often suggested, however wand tilting is by far the most popular. Wands are color coordinated to the blind slats in white and stained choices. Wands do eliminate the extra cords and can be seen as a more sleak addition over the cords. Wands are easy to reach and twist left or right for tilting the blind slats. Wands are the only tilting mechanism available on most 1" blinds. Wands are easily removable and the control itself can be replaced in a matter of seconds where as the cord tilter is also replaceble, but can take a bit longer due to the routing of the cords and the reinstallation of the cord tassels.

Cord tilting is still a great option. Cords are color coordinated as well and can balance out the blind left and right. The cord tilt like the wand can be positioned on the same side as the cord lift control or opposite in most sized applications.

Cord or wand, my advice is consider what is around the window. Will the position for the tilt control be better on the right or left side? Do you have any obsticle in the way of the window? Do you need to reach the tilting from a seated position? Is the blind being installed in stairwell or high area which makes reaching the controls difficult? High mounted blinds will need the cord control for both tilt and lift and can special ordered at an extra length to allow access.

Hey folks, we got a head start on Spring this year, thanks to the early enactment of daylight savings and also Easter is in March tis year. For you history buffs, you'll be interested to know that Easter has not been in March for approximately 93 years and will not be again for a little over 200 years. Naturally we all remember the real reason for Easter....Resurrection Sunday. Jesus born a man, died for our sinds and raised on the third day.

Weather permitting the Spring time early arrival will make most of us feel like getting the yard and home in shape and ready for visitors, garden parties etc. Well, don't forget those aged or just plain out of date window treatments. White wood and faux wood blinds brighten every home on the inside and the outside. Home improvement and decorating magazines can be a great source for ideas. We highly recommend Southern Living, Better Homes and Garden, Country Living. There are many other resources avaialble as well. HGTV is only one of the cable TV decor shows and Public television also offers many options. View enough shows and articles and you will find a room similar to what you are trying to enhance. Once you have narrowed the choices you'll want to get color samples and review measuring information. These are very important to make certain you order the correct product for your windows.

Personal opinion should not be overlooked. you and or your family will see the window covering on a daily basis. Be sure to keep in mind if the need is to cover the window only or to have access to the outdoor view.

An often overlooked source for ideas can doctor and dental offices. Financial centers and almost any place you may have need to spend time in during the course of a year. Often these places of business will update the window decor so in order to keep a fresh atmosphere for customers. Despite some opinions many commercial offices spend a fair amount to redecorate because of the effect the surroundings have regular and would be clientel. Patio Doors and Blinds

Over the years customers will ask about horizontal window blinds for the purpose of covering a patio door. Most often the case of a sliding patio door. While the most common trend would be a vertical blind in this application, I find that many prefer the horizontal blind. The reason behind the madness seems to be the situation in which the door is rarily if ever utilized. In such instances the home dweller is actually going for a floor to ceiling window look in order to hide the slider. Should you decide also to disguise your sliding patio glass door as a large window, I have a few thougths to ponder. Outside mounts are usually the norm , due to the lack of needed depth for inside mount (3 inches in most cases). Also, consider the height for mounting the head rail. You may have extra space above the slider for mounting in order to make the opening look larger than it is. This is not un-common when the idea is to have a faux window space in the first place. Should you ever desire using the door consider a two on one head rail that will allow the blind to be raised in portion rather than in entire width. Doing this allows easier function and longer life on the blind as well as limited open space if trying to protect privacy. Consider the pull handle for the door itself. Will it get into the path of the blind operation? Don't let the blind hang too low as to gather on the floor below. Hold down brackets will keep the blind in place if cleaning intereferes with the lower portion of the blind. Placing a furniture piece in front of the glass door can help to disguise the slider and also make the space look more like a natural large window opening. At first thought I must admit, I too thought this usage to be not so functional. In looking at what some homeowners have done here, I can say, they have pulled off a nice full bay window effect while also hiding the unutilized sliding door. The benefit here is reduced cost while creating a faux atmosphere that many guest never even notice.

Tile Cut Out Option

I am amazed at the number of households who have outside mount blinds in the kitchen window. Customers are choosing outside mount for kitchen and some bathroom windows when they really prefer the inside mount. The reason for this is not the lack of depth in the opening, but rather the issue of tile surround at the bottom of the window recess. Many homes have beautiful tile surrounds at the bottom of these windows. The styles available today make tile surround a very attractive addition to the window. Well, as luck would have it....you can also get an inside mount blind to fit the opeing as well. The option is called "Tile Cut Out". Choosing tile cut out in the options segment of the order process will allow you to input measurements that reflect the reduced width of the bottom of your blind. The reduction will allow the blind to clear the tile at the bottom of the opening in your window space. Please be sure to take advantage of the tile cut out option to make sure the tile surround you paid for in your home is visible for the enjoyment of not only yourself, but to all visitors as well. Remember real wood blinds can warp if subjected to extreme moisture. Faux wood is often a better option if close to moisture sources such as sink or bath area.

Trends are very important to the discerning home owner. One question we get over and over again is, what is everyone ordering today? Well, the answer is still the basic 2" blind. That is right! The most ordered item is still the standard 2 inch blind in the routed construction. Routed being the blind slats with holes for the lifting cord. Now the variation of the 2 inch blind does seem to split somewhat between the wood blind and the faux wood blind. Arched Windows

Hey! do have arched windows? Kinda hard to find window coverings for these isn't it?

While we do offer perfect arches (half as tall as wide) we and many companies do not offer solutions for eyebrow arches. Did you know you may be able to mount a standard blind and shade to the arch window? The application leaves the arch portion of the window uncovered which many find to be acceptable because the arch is normally located close to the ceiling and not a concern when privacy is desired. most shade and blind brackets are attached to the left and right ends of the product which will allow for inside and outside mounting on the ends only. This can be an issue if your window width is extreme, in which case a center support bracket will be needed and may be difficult if not impossible to install when you have no center area, divider, mullion.

Alternatives can be local manufacturers who computer cut wood and fauxwood products to your actual window arch. This will require precise measurement. A less expensive method would be a fabric valance or custom made fabric arch which can be installed using a variety of light weight metal tubing or curtain type rods.

Leaving the arch area open can allow for a nice day time illumination even when shades and blinds are closed and at night it might add a decorative accent to curb appeal, with the interior light visible thru the open arch.

Near future will most certainly make other arch options available. Until that time, I hope these are helpful.

Blinds For Apartments

Live in an apartment, condo or townhome? If so you'll need to check with tenant coucil or leasing office before deciding on blinds and or shades. Often color choices must be cleared by the building manager etc. White is often required for the outside or window side of the shade or blind. That's not a problem blinds are available in many shades of white and the honeycomb cellular shades are normally white to the outside regardless of the room side color chosen. I will urge you to consider that true whites, artic whites and some others may have a bluish huge that may not be acceptable in some buildings. Even woven wood shades have available liners for the street side of the window. These liners are often in white as well and not only provide the white street side requirement of many facilities, but also provide light blocking that will help to reduce the heat that can filter through the shade. Should you find youself in abosolute need of a stained blind or product that does not come with a white street side appearance you might consider a sheer fabric to line the window or maybe a white roller shade to mount behind the blind and or shade. Keep in mind the amount of depth you will using on inside mounts if you ponder this option, it might require an outside blind or shade choice once a roller shade is mounted in the recess of the window opening.

Even if renting or leasing your home, new blinds and shades are an inexpensive decorating option to make the home reflect your own personal style.

Every year one my friends says they know Halloween is near when the stores begin advertising Christmas sales. Christmas or Christ Mass as once termed is a wonderful time to remember our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who chose to lay down his life for the sins of the world....a sacrefice for all men so that who ever would believe in Him would have eternal life in the Kingdom of God. Though not born on the December date celebrated Jesus is the reason for the season. Window Blind Safety

A little known or considered fact in regards to window covering products. In many applications where window coverings are used in public areas like nursing homes, hospitals, day care or schools one should inquire if a flame retardant product is required. Many times local law and or insurance mandates that only a flame retardant product be utilized.

In the event you are faced with this issue do not be alarmed. Faux wood blinds are available in flame retardant form. Our 2" Value blinds are flame retardant and perfect for this requirement. Now, flame retardant means the product is not combustible. Almost any item will burn when exposed to extreme temperatures, but the concern here is normally that the product you place in restricted areas will not ignite by a low temperature ignition source.

The one issue that remains constant is the home in it's self. The condition of the home and it's curb appeal are factors that will remain viable regardless of the market.

One of the lowest cost changes that can be made to a home are new blinds. Not only do they grab the buyers attention from the inside, but also the curb appeal that new clean white and even stained blinds can draw from the public passing by are definite advantages. Manufacturing of your custom made wood and faux wood products can run five to seven days and shipping via ground service will add a few more days. Ten to fifteen business days in normal anywhere in the continental United States. Keep in mind that Woven Woods can run an extra one or two days. Custom products are not shelf ready for same day shipping and therefore when ordering for the Holidays it is best to remember the time frame you are allowing. Another consideration is the increase in shipping times during these high traffic Holidays. Many freight service companies will experience extremely high volumes which can delay shipments or at least stretch the number of days for delivery to the maximum. Our suggestion is just like the dinner, guest arrangements and all the other functions to deal with at the Holiday time....Be certain to order in advance!

Pricing Blind Orders

Today, I would I like to take a minute to discuss pricing of blind and shade purchases. When browsing the various web sites and stores, please be certain to take advantage of the quotes offered. These are avaiable via verbal correspondence at the retail store and normally via internet quik quotes (shopping). What your looking for is the total price on the order you need to place. Some shops offer small blind gimmick pricing and then will over charge on the larger items. Many sites and retailers will add handling fees, sometimes called documentation or administration fees. My advice is take the time to do the home work and price out the entire inventory that you will require even if you desire to purchase a small quantity at a time. You may be very surprised to find the totals differ greatly and teaser rates often only apply to small and more common sizes and types. Though we cannot say we will never add handling fees and or subcharges, we do not at this present time and will try to refrain from such items as they often are added only at check out and distort the shopping experience.

With that said. The most important thing to do is to shop. Looking and comparing on your own is more informative than asking for quotes and relying on anyones opinion.

Stained Faux Wood

When considering faux wood blinds you have the option for white and or stained. White color choices are similar to wood white choices. Stained faux woods can be a little different. Many stained faux wood color choices will be a flat non shine surface. An alternative to this is available in the Royal Trend faux wood blind. Royal offers a subtle, maybe you call it a satin finish, which provides for a sheen without being too glossy. A very nice option to the flat finishes that are most common to the faux woods. Naturally if you are trying to match or color coordinate, the flat and sheen give a great spectrum from which to make a decision. As with all products a sample is suggested for color varification.

Windsong Faux Wood

Hey all!

I've been asked more and more of late ...What are the textured blinds called? You will see the textured blinds in many of the newer homes. I can speak only for WBS Factory, but the textured finish blind in a real bass wood is called "Textured" and in some instances you may see sandblasted. The product most folks are seeing is what we call Windsong Faux wood. Windsong is a faux wood, not a real bass wood blind. The benefits of which are the durability, ease of cleaning and not to forget the lesser cost of the textured real wood blind. While Windsong faux is a heavier product than real wood textured the operation is the same and the overall finish excellant especially in a white color.

Why do some like textured and some like smooth? Well, if we could answer that we'd be first on the block in sales, would'nt we? I think as with all items the issue comes down to preference. Why do some like textured counter tops and some like smooth? Depends greatly on what pleases the eye and what else is in the area. Often contemporary styles will consist of more smooth surfaces, while the country and eclectic ( my favorite) will blend many finishes, colors and styles.

Wood Blind Valance

Just an update on why wood blinds are a focal point. Aside from the the wood grain and rich stain look, or even that they are lighter and easier operated than faux wood. A more recent developement makes them more appealing. The return of the hidden valance clip. Yes, once available with hidden clips of plastic which eventually resulted in an exposed plastic clip, the HIDDEN ATTACHMENT is back! This time with a magnetic attachment! Better than both the older systems. The magnetic system is easy to install and or remove for cleaning etc. New system available in all wood blind products. 1", 2" and 2 1/2". You will love the simplicity and sleeker look.

Window Treatment Privacy

This really wonderful woman Deborah from Florida, asked about the privacy issue with blinds. I began to explain that blinds can be tilted in an up position and down position. I'm thinking who does not know this? But, the reality is that we do need to keep in mind that depending on where the blind is located....top floor, ground floor...There is a great deal of difference. it is so easy to just close them and not give thought to who can see in. Again, in reality anyone wishing to see in will stand next to the blind look up and or down to gain visual into your living space. Routeless blinds will reduce this effect to some extent by eliminating the holes in each slat and therefore eliminating the ability to view through the hole (though it be a very small hole). Cloth tape will provide the same elimination, though not as popular as it once was. Cellular shades will eliminate all vision except for shadows and even that can be overcome with the purchase of the blackout cellular shade. Lastly, the woven wood. Choosen often for it's light filtering abilities and yet it too can be purchased with a blackout liner for privacy.

So...thank you soo much Deborah in Florida for your thoughts on privacy that we could share these important issues with our customers.

Happy Labor Day!

Labor day as many know was supposedly the result of a strike of sorts in protest of the extreme long hours of the normal work day in America so many years ago. Well, I am glad our ancestors had the where for all to take a stand and make us the benefactors of a great day of vacation. While enjoying the familiy and friends and the great food and drink on this day, please take a minute and remember those before us who were not so fortunate to have these little vacations.

Ok, this week I'd like to discuss the rollease option. A greatly over looked little option available on many products. Many today are wanting a less cluttered look. You know, reduce the number of cords. Well, rollease can do just that very thing. Rollease will allow the consumer to have only one looped cord that will handle both lifting and tilting of the blind. What a great way to make for smoother more elegant look than to get rid of the extra cords. Folks, I tell you try one and I think you will agree, the simplicity is worth the extra cost.

Why 2 1/2" Blinds?

Often customers will ask, why should I purchase a 2 1/2" blind instead of 2"?

The answer, like so many choices is one of personal opinion. A 2 and 1/2" blind, often referred to as a Plantation Blind and or Shutter Blind will replicate the shutters of yester year without the staggering cost of custom made left, right louvered shutters. Consider that the normal 2 1/2" blind when fully tilted will offer about 1/2" greater viewing space between the slats than a normal 2" blind. Also, the 2 1/2" when partially open offers the glance of a larger slat over the 2" blind. Options are generally the same which means routed and routeless (no holes version) are both available. 2 1/2" are available in real wood and faux wood (some restrictions may limit choices). Plantation and or Shutter Blinds are not authentic shutters, yet offer a great comparison to the old style large slat shutters and when you look at price you may decide they are viable option.

Only one week til Labor Day! Another summer is fading quickly. Enjoy the week even if the temperature is HOT and the humidity is high....You'll be craving them both come January.

1" Blinds

A customer asked me the why 1" blinds are still available when they do not seem so popular. Well, first of all they are still fairly popular as an inexpensive vinyl product. Secondly the 1" wood can be an alternative when a customer does not have the normal three inches needed to totally recess a two inch blind. 1" blinds are not readily available in faux and will be found mainly as a 1" wood blind. Another reason 1" wood blinds are still useful is for application to doors. Doors in almost every a situation require an outside mount and the 1" wood blind will protrude from the surface only about 2 1/4" in most cases (manufacturer sizes may vary). We are not interior decorators and do not desire to impose our opinions on the customer, yet I can tell you many designers and clients of designers have ordered the 1" wood blind for doors and the 2" blinds for windows. The contrast of 2" and 1" seems to be an acceptable combination for most consumers. The one inch wood is available in most the same whites and stains and is the same bass wood material thus far. While two inch is still by far the most popular item, the one inch will have it's advantages for doors, boats, motor homes etc. Please keep in mind lift cord and tilt wand position when ordering for a door. You may find it is better to have the lift cord and or wand on the hinged side of the door. This can keep them out of the way when the door is opened and closed quickly. Also hold down brackets for the bottom of the door blind will keep the blind stable.

School is starting back again so please take deep a breath and remember the doctor visits, dentist, school supply and clothes shopping will all be over soon. Things will slow down and you can regain a normal life.

Saving Energy with Shades

Like most people today we all want to cut back on the dollars we spend for heating and cooling our homes. We don't want to be uncomfortable, but we simply can't stand the utility cost which seem to be increasing with every coming month.

Consider cellular shades! Honeycomb cellular shades will provide filtered light to enter the home and illuminate the space and at the same time keep much of the heat and or cold out. As with any shade the henderance will be that shades are either open or closed. They cannot be tilted like a wood blind to allow for partial viewing. Actually YES! in one respect they can be! Some cellular shades are available with options like top down, bottom up. This means the shade can be lowered from the top and raised from the bottom. This option allows one to let more light in and limit the view in from the outside. Also, cellular shades come with an R- Rating, just like home insulation and the more efficient modern windows of today. Other features are also available, such as cordless shades or even easy lift which limits the number of cords to one. Colors and sizes are many.

My weather man says we are lucky this year. Temperatures are lower than normal and we can all breath easier. While he maybe correct, someone forgot to tell my electric company. I urge you! Consider Honeycomb Cellular Shades when trying to cut cost and still enjoy a modern stylish home.

Large Blinds Solutions

Many customers face the same issue concrening large blinds. Often your blinds will be say 102 inches wide. When your searching for a product this wide you'll find no warranty or even that the product cannot be produced.

The solution for this can be a 2 or 3 on 1 head rail. One single head rail of say 102 inches with 2 or 3 blinds hanging from the one head rail. The multiple blind on one header solution will be like ordering any other blind so far as measuring and the space between the blinds will be approximately 1/4 inch.

An alternative to the multiple blind on one head rail is the common valance. This senario is where you have ...again, say 102 inch wide. you enter the total width 102 inch, then choose how many blinds to share the 102 inch space and indicate the width of each blind. The blinds will each have a separate head rail and require individual mounting, the space between the blinds will be about 5/8 inch due to the brackets mounting next to one another. The term common valance is because a valance will be supplied that appears as one piece all the way across the top of the blinds. The commonn valance will appear as a 2 or 3 on one head rail however the space between the blinds is a little greater and the you may save a shipping fee depending on the overall width ordered.

Though ordering is basically the same as a single blind, always check factory specifications for all pertinant deductions and additions.

Receiving Delivery of your New Blinds

Some tips on the initial receipt of your blind or shade order. As you can guess the boxes in which blinds and shades are shipped are commonly long and slender, certainly not the typical box available at any store. Take care in unpacking the items. Try not to damage the boxes and save them. In the event an item has to be returned you will need the box in which it was shipped. A customer care contact label is on the box and should be used in the event of damage or malfunction of a product. Packing slips should also be removed and filed away. The pink packing slips contain the detailed information you will need, to identify your particular order when calling customer care.

Many deliveries take place when a customer is not at home and cannot inspect the packages. Please do not be alarmed if a package appears damaged. You do not need to notify the shipping company. Simply unpackage and inspect each item. When a total assement has been made, then with your packing slip in hand contact the customer care number to assist in repair or replacement.

Fortunately, damaged and or defective items are few in number and are easily corrected when packing slips and boxes are retained.

Wood vs. Faux Wood

Hey there, hope everyone had a great 4th of July. What the heck are they putting in the fireworks today? The kids on my street had some ridiculously loud blast! the show was outstnding, but I don't recall such a boom before. We are certainly fortunate to live in such a blessed nation with freedom.

Our topic today is wood blinds vs. faux wood blinds. If you are looking for a real wood look, then naturally a real wood blind is going to be the choice. Nothing will be as real as the real thing. Stains just pop out once applied the natural wood. Faux wood finishes have come a long way and can be a great 2nd choice especially if your looking at a white painted finish. One reference point is the weight difference. Wood is lighter than faux wood. This weight difference can mean the operation of the blind is smoother. Tilting and lifting will generally be with less effort due to less weight and this fact becomes more evident the larger the blind. Not to say a faux wood will not operate as designed, not all. The faux wood blind will tilt and lift as as any other only the pressure on the control mechanisms is greater and takes a little more effort on the operators part. Faux woods have it over the real thing (wood) when placed in areas of high humidity like bathrooms, over sinks, any area that might be subjected to extreme steam or moisture. If the blind is located many feet from the sorce of steam and you have good ventilation (exhaust fan etc.) this may not be an issue for you. Wood can warp. Please take into consideration when ordering, the application of the blind. Faux can take more abuse than a wood blind. Having small children who are always going to be active or if you have pets that might be inclined to claw a view outside, then faux wood (though it can be scratched) will hold up better than the wood product when subjected to abuse.

Protruding mount blinds

You know we get many calls regarding what is commonly called the protruding mount blind. This happens when you do not have enough space for the blind to fit totlly recessed in the window opening. Let's say tou want an inside mount blind which generally requires three inches of depth (for 2 and 2 1/2" blinds). Looking at factory specs you will notice the minimum required mounting space is 1 and 1/8". So the blind brackets can be mounted without the total 3" depth so long as you have a solid mounting surface in which the mounting screws can be inserted. When you mount is this fashion the brackets, blind valance and slats will protrude out into the room. This means the unstained edges of the slats are visible as would they be on an outside mount. It also means the unstained edges of the inside mount valance will be visible. The visible valance and bracket issue can be overcome. To accomplish this you must order inside mount blind with outside mount valance. Simply place order for inside mount utilizing the call/mail payment option. This is suggested so that the order is not produced prior to the all important contact you must make with us to say "Hey I want outside mount valances!" When you request this you will be responsible for letting us know how much valance return (side peice of valance) to provide so that the valance will cover the bracket but also allow for attachment to the head rail. We can cut the valance return to a minimum (usually 1") or to insure the best fit you can trim the valance return yourself (saw required). Many professional installers will cut to fit. This is not complicated, however full understanding is required. When in doubt call to verify. If not totally comfortable, spend the few extra dollars and hire a local installer.

Why Samples are Important

When ordering blinds for your house, style and color are two of the most important choices you will have to make. If you don't get the match you are looking for then, odds are, you are not going to be happy with your purchase.

This is why I strongly recommend that our customers order our free color samples before ordering. Sure, it adds a couple days to the order... but it also makes sure that you are getting the color you want!

The other day I had a customer on the phone who made a sweeping generalization, they said "white is white!" Well, I'm not so sure that I agree. If you go to just about any paint store, wood blinds store, fabric store, or just about anywhere else you will notice there are many, many shades and tints available in white.

Our 2" Premium Wood Blinds product comes in 4 shades of white... and that's just one product!

The bottom line is, if you want to save yourself some frustration make sure you order a sample before ordering the blind. After all, they are FREE!

If you think that waiting two or three days for a sample to come in the mail is a long wait... imagine the time and frustration you will have to go through when you are RE-ORDERING new blinds because you didn't get a color sample first.
